Abbey bells to ring for royal milestone
Tuesday, 8th September 2015
Westminster Abbey will mark a royal milestone Wednesday 9th September, when Her Majesty The Queen will become the longest reigning monarch in British history.
The Abbey's bell ringers will ring a quarter peal of Stedman Caters - starting at 11.30am and lasting around 50 minutes - in celebration of the landmark. It is an historic tradition that the Abbey's bells are rung for significant royal occasions.
The Queen acceded the throne on 6th February 1952, and on Wednesday she will surpass Queen Victoria's record reign of 63 years, seven months and two days.
