Sir David Frost

On 13th March 2014 a memorial stone was unveiled to Sir David Frost in Poets' Corner, Westminster Abbey during his thanksgiving service. It is very unusual to unveil a memorial stone during a memorial service as this is normally done on a future occasion. The Dunhouse blue sandstone marker was designed and carved by Tom Perkins and is situated near Thomas Campbell's statue and not far from Shakespeare's memorial. The inscription reads:

Sir David was born on 7th April 1939 and died on 31st August 2013. Born in Tenterden in Kent he was the son of Wilfred Paradine Frost, Methodist minister, and his wife Mona. He was educated at Cambridge and was secretary of the Footlights while he was there. As well as training in television he appeared on stage and this led to the job of presenting That Was The Week That Was on the BBC. His sketch show The Frost Report began in 1966. He interviewed every British Prime Minister from Wilson to Cameron and seven Presidents of the USA including, famously, Richard Nixon. In 1983 he married Lady Carina Fitzalan Howard, who unveiled the memorial stone, and they had three sons, Miles, Wilfred and George. After Breakfast with Frost finished he launched an international news programme.
